Life in the Pandemic

Life sure has changed since my last blog entry back in the fall.  As of March, we have basically been in quarantine, and that has given all of us more time to pause and consider what's really important life.  I was relieved that most of the exhibits I enjoy working towards entering switched to an online format so I still had some incentive to keep painting through all the added disinfecting and social distancing.  It's not quite the same without the opening receptions where we share camaraderie with friends and fellow artists, but at least it's still possible to enjoy sharing our artwork on the internet.  Art might not be considered essential, but it is important and people still value it and want it in their lives.  It is uplifting not only to the viewers but to the artists as well.  I am even more grateful for it than before.  It takes our minds way from the mundane such as TP shortages et al.  And, if we take the opportunity, it can provide a way of recording a more intimate history as we live through this strange time.

I decided to keep adding to my watercolor journal, usually reserved for nice trips and special events, to create a record of my everyday happenings to show how the pandemic has affected our family life.  It has been cathartic as well as helpful to keep up my drawing skills. Here is a sample from my journal:

:   Let me know if you enjoyed it, and I will post more.  My next show will be two paintings accepted for the DWS Biggs Museum Exhibit in Dover, DE beginning in August.  I will post photos of those paintings next time. Take care and stay well.
